Arlington “Arlie” LeClair, Sr. "anpa ska" was born June 19, 1941, to Ed Charles LeClair, Sr. and Ada Rose Grant LeClair. He was from the Deer Clan and was raised in the White Eagle Community. He graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1960. In 1961, Arlington joined the US Navy stationed at the Naval Station Grand Lakes in Illinois. In 1962 he married Eleanor Hairback. They were married 40 years until her passing in 2003.
In 1964 Arlington graduated from Ft. Worth Technical Institute as a Certified Welder and Machine Shop Technician, then in 1974 Arlington went to the United States Indian Police Academy, Division of Law Enforcement Services, in Brigham City, Utah and after graduation he returned to Ponca City and worked as a Deputy with Kay County Sherriff Office until 1977 where he joined the Ponca City Police Department and worked for 24 years. He retired as Sargent of Patrol Division. He continued to work a few security jobs until he decided to just enjoy his retirement.
Arlington was an avid golfer and liked to take money from his sons and nephews when they played. He was a huge Dallas Cowboy and OU Sooner fan. He enjoyed playing volleyball with his kids and grand kids in the backyard. He was a mean bowler. He loved playing cards with his family. These card games could go on for hours with tons of laughter and teasing and plenty of food that he would cook.
In December 2004 Arlington married Mae Adams. Together they enjoyed traveling, fishing, and going to different casinos. They raised their cat, Kitty, who was spoiled him.
Arlington is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ada LeClair; brothers- Franklin, Ed Charles, Jr., Jesse, and Dale LeClair; sisters- Sherry LeClair and Iris LeClair; daughter- Sandra LeClair; son- Arly Ryan LeClair; and grandson- Jace LeClair.
He leaves behind his wife, Mae LeClair, of the home; children- Arlington Jr. (Stephanie) of Sand Springs, Joseph Charles (Tiffanie) of Ponca City, and Aaron of Holdenville; bonus children- Robin Pratt, Ryan (Lacy)Pratt and Stephen Pratt. Brother Rex (Vera) LeClair of Tulsa, OK and sister Sandra Howell of Pawnee and Tina Youker of Burr Hill. Close nephews; James, Franklin "Jr" and Frances LeClair, BJ and Tony Delodge. And a host of nieces and nephews.
Arlington had 12 grandchildren: Bryron Lee LeClair, Jordan LeClair, Arlington LeClair III, Allana Buffalohead, Keetha Buffalohead, Avery LeClair, Seth LeClair, Ty LeClair, Hayden LeClair, Aaron LeClair Jr, Sandra, and Florence LeClair. Arlington is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
Arlington will lie in state at the Otoe Missouria Tribal Complex Red Rock, OK Sunday and Monday with the traditional noon feast being Tuesday, November 30, 2021 with services to follow. Interment will be in the Ponca Indian Cemetery next to his children. Pastor Jim White and Doctor Reverend Lewis Headman will officiate. Arrangements are in care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, OK
