Betty J. Elliott, longtime resident of the Fairfax Community, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. She was 79. Betty was born January 10, 1929 in Bristow, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lee Files and Wilma McCory Files. She moved with her family to the Fairfax area at the age of one. At a young age Betty worked at the Files Pharmacy, the drug store owned and operated by her father who was the pharmacist. She was a 1946 graduate of Fairfax High School and then attended Oklahoma AM College. She was married to Bill Elliott on May 4, 1948 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The couple had just completed 60 years of marriage. Betty was employed at one time as clerk for the Indian Electric Cooperative in Fairfax. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ponca City Chapter. In her earlier years Betty enjoyed dancing and her time spent in the Red Hat Society. Her other enjoyments included bird watching, cooking and in earlier years flower gardening. She is survived by her husband, Bill, of the home; three sons, Bill Elliott, of Durant, Oklahoma, Lee Elliott and wife, Paula, of Fairfax, and Charlie Elliott and wife, Emily, of Pawnee, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Jill Elliott, Dallas, Texas, Justin Elliott, Denver, Colorado, Jennifer Morse and husband, Jacob, Lewisville, Texas, Nina Jo Elliott and Lea Marie Elliott, both of Tulsa, and Alex Elliott of Pawnee. Betty was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at the First Christian Church in Fairfax, with the Rev. George Weston presiding. Interment will in the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Alex Elliott, Justin Elliott, Bob Rigney, Don Sherill, Jim Lockett and Paul Walters. Honorary casket bearers are Dr. Tom Powers, Cam Steele, Jim Tiger, Dr. James Graham and H.T. Holden.
