The Lord our God called Cindi (Cynthia) Browning Hartman home on May 31, 2026. Cindi was born on November 2, 1948 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She excelled in sports from a very early age, even participating in the AAU Junior Olympics at 11. In high school she participated in athletics as well as the Big Blue marching band. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1966. After attending Northern Oklahoma College she went on to Oklahoma State University where she was on the track and field team. She graduated with a bachelor’s of science in Ag & Applied Science in 1971.

Cindi moved to Vermont where she made a home surrounded by friends who were like her family, and a career of teaching and coaching at many levels of education over the next thirty plus years. Her love of sports never faded. She coached many successful teams from schools to ASA women’s teams. Cindi started her own ASA team, the Baysiders that won the 1994 ASA National Team of the Year. She was also an avid golfer who was known for her long drives and light hearted antics on the green. Cindi’s heart was always in instruction so she began teaching driver’s education at Champlain Valley Union High in 1993 and then Rice Memorial High School in 1998 in which her favorite part of the position was the personal interaction with the students. Many students remember these interactions with love and respect.

 In 2003, Cindi developed her own business, Learn to Drive Driving School, so that she could not only provide lessons to other area high schools, but also through partnerships at local and state levels for refugees and unwed mothers. Cindi’s final years were spent in Mulberry, Florida where she continued to spread love & joy to those she came in contact with daily. In her 77 years, she only missed spending Christmas in Ponca City less than a handful of times. These special Christmas memories with her parents, siblings, and adopted Whitfill family will be some of our most cherished.

Cindi’s first and foremost love was building relationships whether it was as a player, coach, teacher, friend, family member, or co-worker. She loved people and people loved her. Her ability to put people at ease and to make them laugh were just a few of her amazing talents. Her second love was her pets, specifically Pumpkin and then Suki. Therefore, the family is requesting that in Cindi’s honor you make a donation to your local animal shelter.

Cindi was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Wayne Hartman, her brother William (Bill) Hartman, niece Cameryn Davidson, and sister friend, Bernice Whitfill.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Gage & Diane Hartman (Sandy, Utah); nieces Amy Hartman (Salt Lake City, Utah); Emily Davidson, spouse Cody ( Sandy, Utah); Natalie Gillquist, spouse Scott (Lakeville, Minnesota); sister-in-law Ellen Hartman (Springfield, Missouri); nephews Brandon Hartman, spouse Laurie (Estero, Florida); Barry Hartman, spouse Hannah (Springfield, Missouri); Brett Hartman, spouse Marni (Cincinnati, Ohio). As well as several great nieces and nephews.

After caring for him as a child, Jacob Forcier held a special place in Cindi’s heart. Cindi was an important part of the Don Whitfill family (Ponca City, OK); Charles & Kindra Whitfill (Wichita, KS), and Donya & Kenny Gartside (Ponca City, OK) as well as their children and grandchildren. Co-workers in Florida remembered Cindi in a special gathering and balloon release. 

A celebration of life is planned in Vermont on August 15 and another for family & friends will be held in Ponca City, Oklahoma on November 2 at Harvest Hall.
