Erna Lois (known as "Bucky" to family and friends alike) was born in Malone, Texas on December 3, 1934 to Charlie and Elsie Menix. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to west Texas. Bucky married Ben Huse on December 30, 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sparenburg. They were blessed with four children: Debra, Karen, Russell, and Paula. Ben farmed, and Bucky worked as a cook and seamstress. She was well known around the area for her skills that she had honed since childhood. They were both active in their church.
Ben and Bucky moved to Graham, Texas in 1975 where Bucky began a new phase of her life, working in factories. Starting at Mr. Fine's sewing factory, Graham Magnetics, and later Hexcel where she was extremely proud to have been chosen to work on the top-secret Stealth bomber project.
