Obituary

James Douglas “J.D.” Cordova of Ponca City, OK passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 13, 2026 at the age of 55, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving son, dad, grandpa, brother, friend, and family man.

J.D. was born January 16th, 1971 in Trinidad, CO to Carmel and Delores Cordova. He grew up in the automotive repair business working alongside his father at an early age. He graduated from Hoehne High School in 1989, and moved to Ponca City, OK shortly thereafter. He worked for Stan Combs at Ranch Drive Body and Paint from 1989 to 1994, and from there went to work for Jay Warner Body & Paint until 2000, when he opened his own business, Cordova Paint & Body. He would return to Jay Warner Body & Paint later in life to work with Terry Holloway.

He had a passion for paint and auto body work. He had a keen eye for noticing even the smallest of details. This gift produced results of impeccable quality to everyone he served. He would always go the extra mile to return vehicles in pristine condition – better than the original. His proudest project was the restoration of his Black 1985 Chevrolet Truck.

J.D. was a great friend to many people. He could rarely go anywhere in town without running into someone he knew. He loved cruising around town in his truck and listening to music. He enjoyed going to concerts and spending time with people he knew at the casino. He had a knack for taking things apart and putting them back together again. He liked to learn how things work, especially electronics and lights.

He was blessed with two children and three grandchildren, whom he cherished with all of his heart. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren, as well as his dog, Snoopy and his granddog, Lola.

J.D. is survived by his longtime companion and mother of his daughter, Kimberly Kennedy (Parks); daughter Paige Cordova; son-in-law Nick Trask; son Chris Cordova; parents Carmel and Delores Cordova; grandchildren Noah Trask, Decklen Ingmire, and Winnie Trask; brothers Ron Cordova (Sandy) and Paul Cordova (Julie); sisters Cyndi Bialek (Jeff) and Chrissy Cordova; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and the mother of his son, Julie Carter-Latimer. He is preceded in death by his sister Lavonne Solano.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1:00pm at NewPoint Church in Ponca City. For those unable to attend, the memorial service will be recorded and posted online at a later date.
