James Tapp

February 9, 1935 — March 26, 2017

James R. "Jimmy" Tapp, lifelong Ponca City area resident, passed Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Ponca City Alliance Health Center. He was 82.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Blake Lawson, Ryan Nichols, Jay Lawson, David Tapp, Mark Tapp, Ron Tapp, Max McMillan,Tim Tucker, Van Ford. Honorary Casket bearers will be his grandsons Christopher Tapp, Brandon Tapp, Jerrod Leon, Michael Hall, Aiden Tapp
.
James R. Tapp was born on February 9, 1935 on the family farm in Osage County, Oklahoma. He was the son of James David and Edna Elizabeth (Torkelson) Tapp. He worked for the Laborers' International Union and worked on the family farm. He enlisted in the United States Army in August 1954 serving in Greenland and Fort Bliss, Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He served in the Army Reserves until 1962.
He was married first to Caroline LeClair in December of 1957 and to this union were born 6 children.
He later married Annie Jezek . He helped in the raising of Annie's daughter Kathy. Annie preceded him in death in 2000
He enjoyed going to Auctions and was known as "The Junk Master" to his family and working on fine antiquities and collecting Ford pick-ups. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends at the coffee shop.
He is survived by his 3 sons, David Tapp and wife Amy of Ponca City, Mark A. Tapp and wife Karen, Ron and his wife Stacey Tapp all of Ponca City; 4 daughters, Lisa M. Lawson and husband Jay ,Rhonda and husband Van Ford of Newkirk, OK; Pauline Hall, of Ponca City and Kathy Chance and husband Mike of Ponca City; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Ray Tapp Sr. and son-in-law Buddy Hall.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the American Legion.
