After a lengthy and strong battle with dementia, Jerry gained his angel wings at his home in Ponca City, OK. He was 80 years old.
Jerry Dean Brown, Sr. was born on February 19, 1943 in Ponca City, OK. He is the thirteenth child, the fifth son of Hubert Owen and Dora (Eaton) Brown. Jerry graduated from Ponca City High School in 1961, . He later married Helen Marie Vandaveer and together, they had four children: Joy Denise Redford, Jerry Dean Brown Jr., Jake Owen “Buster” Brown and Lynette Marie Brown. Jerry later remarried Ann Bates and gained four stepchildren: Kathy Lockhart, Denise Claybaker, Janette Walton, and David Meyers.
He earned his living as a supervisor for 7 Up Bottling company until 1991 when he took an early retirement. Ann and Jerry were the owners of AJ’s Osage Lounge. He was a very active member of the MOOSE since 1975. Later in 2008, he became a Pilgrim of the Moose. Still more showing his love and devotion to the Moose by being involved with traveling rituals performing with them. In addition to his Moose activities, Jerry enjoyed shooting pool and singing country music.
Jerry is survived by his children Joy, Jerry Jr., and Buster and siblings Sharon Hodges, Lena Auld, Judy Fox, Edith Adkins, Bessie Taylor, and Willey Racho. As well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, his parents Hobart and Dora (Eaton) Brown, infant daughter Lynette Marie Brown, as well as several siblings: Bill Brown, JoAnn Crane, Robert Brown, David Brown, Elizabeth Dale, Richard Brown, Betty Wright, Jackie Schoonover, Otis Brown, and Frances Johnson.
Jerry was known as many things: father, son, uncle, husband, grandpa, Jerry Dean, and Big Jerry.
You will be deeply missed and loved. Until we meet again.
A visitation for Jerry will take place on Monday, October 30, from 3-7 p.m. with family available to greet guests from 6-7 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 31st, 2 p.m., at Ranch Drive Baptist Church with Pastor Tracy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be held privately at a later date.
