Obituary

Lena Jones, better known as “Mawmaw”, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted Christian, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at the age of 87.

Lena Jones was born August 20, 1938 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Edgar and Mabel Fitchpatrick. After graduating, she moved to Oklahoma City, where she met and married Luther Jones. After living briefly in Pawnee and Tulsa, in 1970 , they decided to settle in Ponca City to raise their family. In addition to raising her 4 children, she worked for over 20 years at the Ponca City Nursing home as their Laundry Supervisor, and was an active member at St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church.

After retiring from the nursing home, she dedicated her life to Jones' Daycare, where she spent over 20 years creating a safe and loving space where children were nurtured as family. Her warmth, patience, and kindness left a lasting impact on many generations in her community.

A talented crocheter, she found joy in crafting beautiful Christmas stockings and cozy blankets, each piece made with care and love, sharing comfort and seasonal cheer for those around her. She also loved art, wordsearch puzzles, and singing in church with her husband and family.

Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Though she did not attend church regularly in recent years, she remained deeply connected to God through prayer and quiet devotion, inspiring those who knew her with her steadfast spirit.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Luther Jones, her two children, Tommy Jones, and Kim Jones, her siblings Reba Elston, Geraldine Fitchpatrick, Mabel Price, and Edgar Fitzpatrick Jr. and her son in law Olen Butler Jr.

She is survived by her children Sherry Carnes, and Tammi Jones-Butler, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Her love was the foundation of our family and we are thankful for every lesson, hug, and memory. She will live on in all of our hearts forever.
