Mary Alice Phipps, longtime Ponca City area resident, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Shawn Manor Nursing Center. She was 76. Mary was born March 22, 1932 in Kaw City, Oklahoma, the daughter of John D. Bain and Fern M. Fox Bain. She received her early education in the Uncas area schools. She was married to Alfred Lee Phipps on August 8, 1951 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Savannah, Georgia prior to returning to Ponca City in 1955. Mary was a member of the Pythians Sisters Lodge, of Ponca City, and her enjoyments included traveling, fishing and cooking. She is survived by her son, Steve Phipps of Ponca City; two sisters, Shirley Patten of Ponca City and Edna Harrison; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alfred, on December 27, 1989; one sister, Celia M. Spurlock; and two brothers, John Bain and Carl Bain. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Jack Adams presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Friendship Feast, to OU Medical Research, or to the memorial fund of choice.
