Michael Alan Bundy

Michael (Mike) Bundy, passed away on August 7, 2026, at the age of 85, following several weeks of failing health. He was born in Wichita, KS, to parents Angela and Curtis Bundy and graduated from Wichita West High School. He is survived by his children Brian Bundy (Ashley) of Wichita, KS and Monica Miller (Timothy) of Lenexa, KS; his grandchildren Logan, Braeden, Devin, Lauryn, Jordan, and Taylor; and his brother, Larry Bundy, of Castle Pines, CO.

Starting before high school, Mike developed a lifelong interest in automobiles, building and modifying plastic models, drawing futuristic concept cars, and ultimately buying, building, and restoring antiques of various ages. He held numerous jobs as a mechanic, working on vehicles from Volkswagens (a certified mechanic) to semitrucks to dragsters. He wrote curriculum for Pioneer Tech Center for their votech department, earned a degree from Oklahoma State University, and ultimately earned his dream job in Detroit at the General Motors Tech Center as a member of the quality control engineering group. He spent 11 years in Detroit, 10 of which he spent volunteering with the Formula One Races there, where he provided transportation as requested. When not working, he enjoyed piloting his own hot air balloon.

Upon returning to Oklahoma, Mike settled on the shores of Kaw Lake and was active in the Kaw Lake Association - Chamber of Commerce, spending many hours and miles promoting it. He also participated in the Eagle Watch program held there annually. He was president of the Oklahoma Street Rod club, as well as serving 2 years as president in the Schooners Car Club, Ponca City. He attended many car and balloon events in the Oklahoma area, always stepping up to work on any event when asked.

He was considered a gentleman and a scholar among his friends and associates, and also considered a kind, generous, humble, compassionate, and helpful friend. He was very open minded, with a drive to experience new food and places. He had a deep and abiding love for his family and friends, and he loved his tuxedo cat Buster and his garage cat Out Back.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held August 16, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Ponca City Veterans of Foreign War Post 1201, 2821 E. Prospect Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the VFW or the Pioneer Technology Center (Votech Automotive Programs).
