Ollie Buffington

September 24, 1931 — May 7, 2018

Ollie Mae was born to Charlie and Narcisse Patterson 1931 in Oak Ridge, LA. Mae, as she was affectionately known was the 12th of 13 children born to her parents. She was a vibrant, happy child who enjoyed the companionship of her siblings. Ollie Mae spend most of her formative years in Oak Ridge where she attended elementary, middle school and high school. After her graduation from high school, Ollie moved to Ponca City to be with her sister Clara Belle and lived with their maternal aunt, Rosie Thorn. Ollie enjoyed going home and spending time with her family, mother, siblings and friends who were still in Oak Ridge. It was while on one of these trips that she became reacquainted with a classmate. Their union was blessed with three sons Willie Charles, Terry and Ken. Ollie and her boys made Ponca City their home and she worked at various jobs to provide for them.
Ollie Mae met Alex Buffington and they were married in Ponca City. You could find Alex and "Sug", as he lovingly called her, enjoying the summer sun and the autumn breeze on their front porch swing. Sug and Alex were married for many years before his death. Even following the death of her beloved, Ollie still enjoyed the fresh air and front porch conversations with her family and friends. Each Summer, or as often as she could, Ollie would go home to Oak Ridge to visit and bring back a car load of food stuff. Ollie enjoyed cooking for her boys and sharing with her sister, Clara, her cousin, Bea, her nephew, Dwain, and her close friends.
Ollie's boys were the joy of her life and later her grandchildren. Mae cared for her youngest son, Ken until his death in 2013. Ollie spent her remaining days under the gentle and loving care of her middle child, Terry. Ollie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Narcisse Patterson, two sons Willie Banner and Ken Banner, five brothers; George, Charles, Billie, Herbert, and Willie James Patterson; six sisters Bessie, Lucille, Rosie, Urma, Maggie, and Clara with whom she spent many happy years.
Ollie leaves behind to cherish her memory one son, Terry and wife Avis Banner, four grandsons, one granddaughter Kenyetta, five great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Additionally mourning her passing and feeling the void in their hearts are her brother, Wilbert "Pop" Patterson of Bastrop, LA, her nephew Dwain West of Ponca City, as well as her many other nieces and nephews, cousins and her friends.
Ollie Mae made her transition from this earthly home on Monday, May 7, 2018 (May 7th was also the date of her youngest son's birth) at approximately 8:00 a.m. to her house not made with hands.
A funeral service will be held at Attucks Community Center located at 1013 South 12th on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 in the morning. The family will be at the home located at 820 South 11th Street to receive visitors.
