Richard Morgan

Richard Max "Dick" Morgan, resident of Ponca City, passed Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the AllianceHealth Ponca City Medical Center. He was 78 years of age.

Richard was born September 18, 1937 in Nevada, Iowa, the son of James Alford Morgan and Clara (Williams) Morgan. The family moved from the family farm in Osceola, Iowa to Ponca City in 1941 where his father James started work at the Conoco refinery.

Richard attended schools in Ponca City. He served his country in the United States Navy from September 1954 until September 1958. After his service he moved to Wyoming in 1958 to work in the oil field for Loffland Brothers as a dockhand. In 1961 he was sent to Benghazi, Libya as a driller. After two years in Libya he returned to Ponca City.

Richard married Wanda Klinger on September 4, 1965. On September 10, 1965 he began working for Conoco as a truck driver. Conoco then transferred him to Billings, Montana in 1967. Then later to Roundup, Montana in 1968 as a supervisor. In 1976 the couple welcomed their first son, James Bradley Morgan. Their second son, Jeffrey Ray Morgan was born in 1979. Three months later the family moved to Farmington, New Mexico where Richard was Superintendent of Transportation. In 1985 the family moved to Ventura, California to continue his work for Conoco. In 1993 they moved back to Ponca City. Richard retired from Conoco in 1997. From 2002 to present the family were independent contractors for Beaver Express.

Richards's enjoyments throughout the years included hunting, shooting, participating in rodeo events, playing golf and spending time with his boys. He and his son Jeff had belonged to a gun club together and while living in Montana he and Wanda both owned and flew their airplane.

He is survived by his wife Wanda, of the home; two sons, Brad Morgan and wife Nicole, and Jeff Morgan and wife Jennifer, all of Ponca City; four grandchildren, Bailee, Hunter, Hailey and Makenna Morgan; one brother, James Morgan and wife Glenda, of Florida; one sister, Karyn Duffy and husband Bill, of Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Larry Metzger presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
