Sarah Officer

May 30, 1942 — January 15, 2022

Our beloved Wife and Mother, Sarah Officer, passed away on January 15, 2022. She will forever be missed by family and friends.

Sarah was born in Great Bend, Kansas on May 30, 1942. She grew up in Stillwater, OK until the age of 15 when she set out to pursue her own way of living. She worked two or three part time jobs to pay rent and groceries while completing her High School Diploma.

Since High School her intended occupation had always been to become a registered nurse. In 1960 at the University of Oklahoma she began that journey. She always excelled as a student and has many certificates and acknowledgements to prove her hard work and diligence.

Sarah's career began after her completion in the diploma program as a registered nurse. She continued in 1964 after moving to Ponca City on the Medical Surgery unit for a few years, and then after taking a Coronary Care Course in 1967, helped to set up the first Intensive Care Unit at the hospital. In 1969 she started work as a nurse for a local Gynecologist and then after a brief retirement to stay at home with her daughter she returned to work at the local hospital, which had become St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Working in the Outpatient surgery Unit in the hospital and as a staff nurse in the outpatient surgical department she also was employed in the recovery room from 1976 until 1985. Amongst the many positive compliments given by department heads one comment sums it all when the Unit Director for the Operating Room and Outpatient Surgical Unit said "Sarah is a very caring and compassionate person. She embodies the idea of holistic total patient care.... mind, body and soul."

Sarah was active in the church where she was a prayer warrior, taught Sunday School, and involved in many other groups as part of her service to our Lord. She volunteered for the Literacy Council, Hospice, lead a Celebrate Recovery program and many other groups that was a huge part of her service.

Sarah is survived by her beloved husband Lanny Officer of the home, her son Tim and wife Linda Gay of Oklahoma City, daughter Shelly Williams and husband Anthony Williams of Ponca City, daughter Debra Rother and husband John Rother of Kingfisher and son Scott Officer and wife Kari Officer of Ponca City. She had eight grandchildren, Christopher Gay, Brandi Ortiz, Ryan Runner, Nicole Stroder, Matthew Williams, Carson Officer, Alexis Officer and Allison Officer. She also has two great grandchildren.
