Vernon Harragarra

Vernon Ned Harragarra Vernon Ned Harragarra, passed away on June 19, 2008, at Lakewood, Colorado, a beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather. Vernon was a generous, honest, and kind person who gave of himself. Vernon is survived by his loving wife of the home, Jessie Ann Harragarra; children Isaac Moses Harragarra of the home, Vernon Quinn Harragarra of Red Rock, OK, Brian Brace Harragarra of Red Rock, OK, Julia Nicole Harragarra of Ponca City, OK, and Bernadette ML Harragarra of California. He was devoted to his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Vernon will be greatly missed by family, extended family, and friends. Vernon was born in Lawton, OK, on March 14, 1940, to Clifford Harragarra Otoe and Louise Brace Harragarra Kiowa; his Grandparents Ned Brace Kiowa and Louise Karyho Brace Kiowa, Wyandotte; and Moses Harragarra Otoe and Mary McGlaslin Harragarra Otoe. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters Virginia Vesta Harragarra and Martha Ann Harragarra; brother Virgil Leon Harragarra, and daughter Angela Faith Harragarra. Vernon is a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Red Rock, Oklahoma. He was of the Otoe Buffalo Clan. He was a Southern Traditional Dancer. He was a member of the Otoe Eloska Society and served as the Whipman. He also was a Sundancer. Vernon had affiliations with the Otoe Native American Church and the sweat lodge ceremonials. His education included schooling at Pawnee Indian Boarding School, Pawnee High School, Haskell Institute, and the University of Oklahoma. He was employed by the FHAHUD as an accounting technician, as FHA real estate appraiser, housing representative, production manager, housing
ision director, and as administrator for the Northern Plains Office of Indian Programs in Denver, CO. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center near Red Rock, with the Bassett family presiding. Burial will be in Otoe-Missouria Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
