Leonard Epperson

Leonard Epperson, 76, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother was called to his eternal resting place on December 16, 2022. He entered this world on September 14, 1946, in Ponca City, OK born to Lonnie B. and Gladys M Nabours Epperson.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2022, in the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Sunie Stolhand officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Grace Memorial Chapel with the family in attendance from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to receive friends and relatives.

Leonard grew up in Ponca City and he graduated from PO High in 1964. Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy, and he served three years during the Vietnam conflict and was honorably discharged in 1967. Leonard continued his education and received an Assoc. of Science Degree, Electronics Technology from NOC. He then transferred to Oklahoma State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1976 while working full time and supporting his family. Leonard was very active in the Ponca City community serving on numerous boards and committees such as, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Kay County American Cancer society, Pioneer Area Vo-Tech Electronics Program, and the Special Olympics of Kay County.

While Leonard’s girls were growing up, he was very involved in their actives in which he coached them in fast pitch softball for 10 years and 5th and 6th grade girls’ basketball for four years. Leonard also coached his girls for two years while they played soccer. He also served as President of Kid’s Incorporated and vice president of the Softball Kid’s Inc. Leonard was so community minded it was a perfect fit for him to join the Ponca City Noon AMBUCS in 1982 and he became a life member. Leonard served on numerous committees for AMBUCS and was elected Chapter president in 1990. Leonard felt the need to continue making a difference, so he served on the district and regional boards of AMBUCS as District Governor and Regional Director of the Great Plans Region of AMBUCS. Leonard was elected National President of AMBUCS in 2005.

Leonard started his career with Pelton Company, Inc in 1969 working as a technician while attending school. In 1987 he was promoted to Vice-President & General Manager of Manufacturing. In 2000, Leonard was awarded a patent for “Method and Apparatus for Minimizing Harmonic Distortion”. After working Thirty-Two years Leonard retired from Pelton Company in 2001.

Leonard met the love of his life Vickie L. Kenyon and they made Ponca City their home. Leonard loved spoiling and spending time with his family, farming, playing golf, hunting, and fishing.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Vickie Epperson; daughter Janna Epperson of Broken Arrow, OK and Jill Jordan of Ponca City, OK. Grandchildren; Brandon Pemberton of Colcord, OK, Baylee Bonewell of Ponca City, OK, Abbey Paulson of Broken Arrow, OK and Easton Jordan of Ponca City, OK, Great grandchildren; Kye Bonewell and Rhemlee Bonewell both of Ponca City, OK, One brother; Ralph Epperson of Ponca City, OK Five sisters; Ella Mae Hendrick of Arkansas City, KS, Charlene Thornton and husband George, Dora Matlock, Martha Lawson and husband Stephen and Laura Epperson all of Ponca City, OK, also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers: Bud Epperson, Lonnie Howard Epperson, Ernie Epperson, Sterling Epperson, and Pete Epperson.
