Mark Thorpe

January 18, 1970 — December 19, 2021

Gary" Mark" Thorpe, of Ponca City, OK died on December 19, 2021, at the Alliance Health Hospital in Ponca City. He was 51.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday December 28, 2021, at 2p.m. at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery with arrangements under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Wildman of the Burbank Baptist church will be officiating.

Casket bearers will be Rob Cockrum, Shawn Grigsba, Greg Posey, his two Uncles, Mark Childers, Paul Childers, Raymond Lee Davis Jr., and Donnie Curfman.

Mark was born on January 18, 1970, at Ponca City, the son of Gary Stephen Thorpe and Charlotte Ann Childers.  He attended the Ponca City schools graduating in 1988. He was active in various sports, but wrestling was his favorite.  He started working for his dad at the age of 12 in the Family-owned business, Thorpe Trenching and Backhoe Company. He said many times, that he got his hard work ethic from working alongside him. His Dad preceded him in death on January 13, 2020.

He married Trish Sanders and to this Union two children were born. Taylor Brooke Thorpe and Tylar Dean Thorpe.

Later, he was married to Dawn Marie Morgan and to this union Levi Gary Thorpe was born.

On October 11, 2006, he was united in marriage to Jonece “Joni” Cockrum, the love of his life at Perry, Oklahoma. They made Ponca City their home.

Mark worked for 17 years at the 7-up / Dr.  Pepper Beverage Facility as a Route Driver and later became the warehouse supervisor.

His enjoyments were spending time with his grandchildren and especially loved attending the various tributes to his uncle Bob Childers who was the godfather of the “Red Dirt Music”.  He was always ready to go to the concerts.

He is survived by his wife, Joni; his children, Taylor Brooke Sebor, Tylar Dean Thorpe both of Ponca City; Levi Gary Thorpe of Chandler, AZ; Sister, Vickie D. Thorpe ; His Mother, Charlotte Ann Thorpe;  Stepsons, Robert Cockrum and wife Susan, of Ponca City; Tom Wolfe and wife Melanie of Blue Hill, Maine; Grandchildren; Ryleigh Page Wetzel; Josie Layne Sebor, Sawyer Reid Sebor, Greyson Dean Thorpe, Briann Dixon and spouse Connor, Kayla Cockrum, Reese Wolfe, Lillian Wolfe; 8 Great Grandchildren; His Step-Mother Brenda Thorpe of Blackwell, Stepsisters Christina and husband, Donnie Curfman, Jennifer and husband Tony Lauver both of Ponca City, OK  and Stepbrother Raymond Lee Davis Jr. of Shawnee, OK.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Gary Stephen Thorpe; his maternal grandparents, Howard and Rhea Childers and his Paternal Grandmother Virginia (Reynolds) Willis and Grandfather Richard Franklin Thorpe and two uncles, David Childers and Bob Childers.
