Shirley Childs

Red Rock

Shirley Childs, 80, beloved mother and sister, was called to her eternal resting place on March 4, 2022 in Ponca City, Oklahoma.  She entered this world on June 13, 1941 in Pawnee, OK, born to John and Rachel (Daily) Childs.

Shirley attended Red Rock High School and graduated with the class of 1962. She then went on to Northern Oklahoma College and majored in nursing. She had the honor of being the Otoe Missouria Tribal Princess in 1962.

She worked many jobs throughout her life, her first being the CHR Director for the Enid State School. Shirley then worked at the Bingo Hall for the Otoe Missouria Tribe in 1980 and stayed employed with the tribe for over 30 years. Her last job being a receptionist for the tribe at 7 Clans Paradise Casino before her retirement.

Shirley loved going to garage sales as well as having garage sales of her own. She also enjoyed playing at the casinos around the area. She would often go with her daughter Annie.

She is survived by her beloved daughter LeeAnn (Annie) Childs; 4 brothers: Hank and wife Marie Childs of Enid, Mitch and wife Mary Childs of Enid, Robert Childs of Enid, and Cheek Childs of Red Rock. She is also survived by one sister, Barbara and husband Jim Walton of Enid.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rachel; her paternal grandparents Harry and Mary Childs; her maternal grandparents Charley and Josephine (Deroin) Daily; two brothers Johnny and Don; two sisters Karel Childs and Debbie Coffey; and niece Donna Childs.

A viewing will be held on Monday, March 7 at the Otoe Missouria Tribal Complex beginning at 12 p.m. with a graveside service following at the Otoe Missouria Tribal Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Ted Grant officiating. Casket bearers will be Ted Grant, Blaine Hall, Quin Harragarra, Emmet Hall, Ramiro Ramirez, and Dakota Kirn.
